API Refrigerated Tank Conference

Thursday, October 22, 2026
Co-located with Day 2 of the API Storage Tank Conference

As the world continues to focus on reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, it must also manage increasing demand for reliable energy. Against this backdrop, lower carbon solutions such as Liquified Natural Gas (LNG), Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs), and Ammonia as a hydrogen carrier will play a pivotal role in the evolving clean energy transition. Today, energy and industrial companies rely on traditional energy sources while also retrofitting and constructing processing and storage facilities for biofuels and other renewables. They’re actively exploring new energy forms and engineering infrastructure to support liquid natural gas, natural gas liquids, hydrogen, and ammonia.

The API Refrigerated Tanks Conference will focus on both refrigerated and cryogenic storage. It will provide a venue for information sharing specific to this storage, support initiatives towards acceleration of the technology, innovation, mitigation of emissions, and infrastructure advancement.

2025 Presentations Included:

  • Keynote: Refrigerated Storage Tanks – A look at current and future markets
  • Assessment of Pressure Relief Vent Fires on Concrete Roofs of LNG Storage Tanks
  • New API Standard for Inspection of Refrigerated Tanks
  • Enhancing an Existing LNG Storage Tank by Repair and Upgrades: A Real Life Case Study
  • Rehabilitation of an Ammonia Storage Tank (AT-911)
  • Innovative Construction of Cryogenic Storage Tanks Using High Manganese Steel
  • Midscale Modular Refrigerated Liquified Gas (RLG) Tank – The Next Step to Reduce Cost and Schedule
  • Flexible, Scalable, Modularized LNG Storage Solutions for the Evolving Energy Markets
  • Enhancing Safety and Efficiency: Acoustic Emission Monitoring for Storage Assets
  • Overview of LNG Risk Management
  • Closing Keynote: Signals vs. Noise: Energy Markets and the Economy – A presentation on the state of the economy from API’s Chief Economist

Navigating SPCC Regulatory Compliance with the “Prevention Guy”
Tuesday, October 20, 2026
9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Join Mark W. Howard, the recently retired EPA national SPCC subject matter expert and program manager, for a practical, insider’s look at SPCC compliance from a former federal regulator’s point of view. Gain practical SPCC compliance insights, enforcement perspectives, and spill reporting guidance from the regulator who helped shape the rule and the associated compliance monitoring program.  This short course is designed to help attendees build the knowledge and the skill set needed to develop, implement, review, and evaluate 40 CFR Part 112 Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans. Attendees will also leave with a better understanding of how the EPA enforcement and inspections program really operate. Participants will also receive an overview of federal oil discharge reporting requirements under 40 CFR Part 110 and 40 CFR Part 112.

Attendees will get a rare behind-the-scenes perspective from the person who both drafted the SPCC rule and trained EPA SPCC inspectors. Participants will learn practical strategies for navigating these complex requirements while achieving compliance in a cost-effective way. Updated specifically for the advanced API Storage Tank Conference audience, the course includes actionable “Ounce of Prevention Takeaways” that participants use to achieve compliance. This short course is ideal for terminal owners and operators, environmental compliance professionals, managers, first responders, inspectors, plan developers, regulators, and related technical staff. Whether you are new to 40 CFR Parts 112 and 110 or already experienced and looking for deeper implementation insight, you will leave with practical SPCC knowledge relevant to midstream, downstream, and end-use sector oil storage facilities. The course will not focus on upstream (oil production) sectors.

Avoid Housing Scams

Note: API has not contracted with any third party for hotel arrangements and will not call or email you directly to make housing arrangements on your behalf.

Should you receive a call or email from a third-party provider, please collect as much information as you can and let us know immediately. “Room Poachers” have been known to act as representatives of API, or authorized providers of API, to offer room discounts or alternative accommodations to our attendees – often to the attendee’s detriment. These companies are not affiliated with API, and reservations made through these companies for our meeting cannot be guaranteed.

How It Works

This deceptive practice (called “room poaching”) is carried out by third‐party companies that act as travel agencies, wholesalers, or even API to solicit registrants for room reservations. The poacher might inform registrants that the hotel room block is “sold out,” and that if you do not book with them immediately, you may not get a room. Room poachers make it more difficult for us to meet our room block commitments and expose us to penalties and increased room rates for our events. Room poachers often don’t deliver on promises to customers. When customers arrive, reservations are non‐existent, or the hotels are not conveniently located. Sometimes the rooms have been cancelled and hefty cancellation fees have been placed on the customer’s credit card.

Don’t Be Deceived

If you are contacted by anyone asking if you need a room for the API Conference, please get as much information as you can (their name, company name, phone number, etc.) and pass it along to [email protected]. Always make your room reservation directly with the information provided by API or a trusted source.

API will use all legal means possible to prevent these groups from operating.

Please contact [email protected] with any questions.
